We are heading for hard times ahead. Whatever happens over the next few months will probably shape most of our lives for the next decade or so. Economics is often known as the 'dismal science' and in times like these it's not hard to see why. Governments all around the Europe, whether they are in the Eurozone or not, need to be considered and strong as ever. This is not a time for political one-upmanship on anyone's behalf, and decision makers need to be mindful that whole swathes of the country will have their livelihoods dependent on them. Sorry, there is in fact much pressure.

This makes me angry. Good on the Democrat senator, but an absolutely shocking piece of legislation. How in the world can this have helped anyone. No government supposing to be interested in protecting its citizens should have sanctioned this.

Have had a lovely birthday meal with very cool friends (though most were slightly hungover), with some incredible mathematics needed to sort out the bill. I have found my calling as a banker: good job I’m doing economics next year. That’s right, it is going to happen - thank you Manchester and especially Exeter! Waiting for Thinking Skills Assessment on Wednesday which I’m actually quite looking forward too, as you have essays you don’t have to revise for, but just write from your heart. Ahem, hopefully with some slightly relevant stuff. Or I would look forward to if I could get rid of this dratted cold that developed during eating my salad. Who said vegetables were good for you? As a remedy, a good Spanish hot chocolate thick like soup. I like the slogan on the mug. Je suis ironique, non?

As holy as I feel being a pescetarian, this quinoa thing defeated me. Think parents are doing their best to dissuade me from not eating meat by serving me this on my birthday. We’ll call it a stalemate as it’s going to the chickens, and I’ll try to set a precedent for the rest of my adult life with just the things I’m consuming from now on instead: cake and champagne.

Have had a bit of a rough week this week, but nothing compared to many asylum seekers. It annoys me when people pass judgements without knowing much about what, why and how decisions are made. Still, discussion is good, but blind arrogance and refusal to concede way at either end does not help anything and does not lead into any further insight. Even if one aims to antagonise and humiliate the opposition.

I wish we were at the place where this person's story didn't have to be counted as 'news' of any sort.
