Not me. Reading Orlando with my new toy (a Kindle. Did I mention it was my birthday?). Love discovering all these classics that are never mentioned at school. Hmm… I wonder why. Conspiracy. In other news, finally catching up with last week’s HIGNFY. Enjoying the love between Hislop and Louise Mensch whose face Hislop’s is reflected in. I would not normally diss only the woman’s appearance, but its barely worth mentioning Hislop’s prune, so really I’m being equally insulting. And they’re both far too smug.
Have had a lovely birthday meal with very cool friends (though most were slightly hungover), with some incredible mathematics needed to sort out the bill. I have found my calling as a banker: good job I’m doing economics next year. That’s right, it is going to happen - thank you Manchester and especially Exeter! Waiting for Thinking Skills Assessment on Wednesday which I’m actually quite looking forward too, as you have essays you don’t have to revise for, but just write from your heart. Ahem, hopefully with some slightly relevant stuff. Or I would look forward to if I could get rid of this dratted cold that developed during eating my salad. Who said vegetables were good for you? As a remedy, a good Spanish hot chocolate thick like soup. I like the slogan on the mug. Je suis ironique, non?
As holy as I feel being a pescetarian, this quinoa thing defeated me. Think parents are doing their best to dissuade me from not eating meat by serving me this on my birthday. We’ll call it a stalemate as it’s going to the chickens, and I’ll try to set a precedent for the rest of my adult life with just the things I’m consuming from now on instead: cake and champagne.
Don’t Cry For Me Argentina (Evita) :
It won’t be easy
You’ll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love
After ll that I’ve done
You won’t believe me
All you will see
Is a girl you once knew
Although she’s dressd up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you
I had to let it happen
I had to change
Couldn’t stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window
Staying out of the sun
So I chose freedom
Running around trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it too
Don’t cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don’t keep your distance
And as for fortune and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world
They were all I desired
They are illusions
They’re not the solutions
They promise to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me
Don’t cry for me Argentina
Don’t cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don’t keep your distance
Have I said to much?
There’s nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do
Is look at me to know
That every word is true
The French Constitution (Rosie’s homework) :
The national constituent
Assembly
Wanted to use their
Declaration of the rights of man
And the citizen
It was not easy
To get a constitution
Work with the monarchy
Who resisted the declaration
Although, this soon all changed
In the October days
And more émigrés
Work commenced again in the Assembly
France was divided into
Eighty three departements
Replacing provinces
With multi round elections
And broad electoral franchise
But limited in subsequent rounds
The Parlements were effectively abolished
Nobles and bishops were angered
Monarchiens against reformers
They planned in Paris
And published
Seventeen ninety one
The King could not propose laws or veto
Legislation for more than three years
His civil list would be determined
By legislative vote
This was in accord
With Montesquieu and his separation
Of powers
In the constitution improving on the
British model he had observed
The French Constitution
The King could appoint ministers
Only a suspensive veto
Dependent on the Assembly
For foreign policy
He needed consent before
He declared war
His office was then
Subordinate to the Assembly
It was only by means
Of the law that the King
Was able too – oo rule
